Sister Rebecca Doty: The Power of a Mother's Prayers

This Week in the Fort Worth, Texas Mission

Last week, we met a 16 year old named Luis. This kids is the epitome of an angsty teenager. We could tell he wanted to get answers even though he put on the 'I'm too good for this' act. His brother died recently, I'm sure he's a little hurt from that even though he wants to act like it doesn't bother him.

Before visiting Luis this week, we had been discussing if we should drop him as he really wasn't willing to do anything to progress. We said a prayer before we got out of the car. We knocked on the door and both he and his mom came to the door. We hadn't met his mom yet and from the start she was super nice! She invited us in and told us she worked for a Mormon lawyer. She told us she and Luis had discussed the things we had left him to read, he hadn't read it, but she had. She said she prays for him every night. (We told her we were an answer to her prayers). Luis talks to his mom a lot and he asks her lots of questions.

So, we taught Luis again, we just couldn't drop him! The kid was saved by his mom's prayers and love! He still doesn't want to pray or read, but his mom invited us back to teach her!! After Luis left the room she told us she had asked her boss if he had sent two beautiful girls to teach her 16 year old son, they laughed and she said, "You know how to get to him!" Hahah! There's a lot we didn't know until we talked to Lily, good mothers are so wonderful.
